TRANSPORTATION SERVICES
General Information
District 54's Transportation Services Department works in conjunction with school personnel, First Student and parents to provide a safe and efficient service. More than 10,000 students are transported on a daily basis.
Students must be at their stop at least 5 minutes before the scheduled pick-up time to maintain a safe and timely arrival at school.
Routes and Stops
School bus routes and stops are determined by District 54's Transportation Services Department on the basis of safety, efficiency and student ridership.
Bus routes, stops or times may be altered by District 54's Transportation Services Department if ridership changes during the school year.
Free Riders
District 54 provides free bus transportation for students in kindergarten through eighth grade who attend their base school and live more than 1.5 miles from their base school. This service is available at no cost to the students because the district receives partial reimbursement from the state of Illinois.
Pay Riders
Students in kindergarten through eighth grade who live within 1.5 miles of their school may ride the bus for an annual fee depending on the availability of seats on an existing bus.
The deadline for parent paid
transportation has been changed to July 15 effective with the 2010-2011
school year. We will be mailing applications the beginning of June. To
avoid the $50 service charge and to assure a seat on the bus, you will
need to return the application on or before July 15.
